Does Esso Extra still exist in Canada?

No. The Esso Extra program ended on January 17, 2022. Since January 18, 2022, ESSO and Mobil stations operate exclusively with PC Optimum. If you had an unconverted Esso Extra balance before April 30, 2022, those points have expired. To earn points at ESSO today, all you need is a PC Optimum card or the app.

Does Shell still accept AIR MILES in 2026?

Not for much longer. In Alberta, AIR MILES has not been accepted at Shell since March 3, 2026. However, in the rest of Canada, the transition will take place on May 26, 2026. After this date, Shell will fully switch to Scene+. Furthermore, your AIR MILES balance remains valid with other partners and will be converted to BMO Blue Rewards in summer 2026.

Which gas station earns the most points?

It depends on your credit card and the program you prioritize. For cash back, the CIBC Dividend® Visa Infinite* Card (4% at the station) combined with Journie at Ultramar is very competitive. In addition, for PC Optimum points at ESSO, the PC Insiders™ World Elite Mastercard® goes up to 70 points per liter. Finally, for Scene+, Shell becomes the preferred option starting May 26, 2026, with Scotia Bank cards.

How does the Petro-Points program work?

You earn 10 Petro-Points per liter of gas and 10 points per dollar at the convenience store, via the Petro-Canada app (no more plastic card since 2021). Thus, every 1,000 points is worth a $1 discount. In addition, by linking your RBC card, you save 3¢/liter instantly and earn 20% more points.

Can loyalty and credit cards be combined?

What is the Journie Rewards program?

Journie Rewards is the program of the Parkland group, available at Ultramar, Chevron, Pioneer, Fas Gas, ON the RUN, and Marché Express stations. You earn 1 point per liter and 2 points per dollar at the convenience store. In addition, at each 300-point cycle, you get discounts on fuel (3¢ at 150 points, 7¢ at 300 points) or 300 Aeroplan points if you have linked the two programs.

Is there a loyalty program at Costco gas?

No, Costco does not have its own loyalty program at the pump. Indeed, its advantage is a structurally lower price per liter than elsewhere. However, to maximize your gas purchases at Costco, the CIBC Costco Mastercard offers 3% cash back, and the Capital One Costco Executive card gives a 2% rebate on all Costco purchases.
