{"id":91510,"date":"2020-07-02T02:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-07-02T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/?p=91510"},"modified":"2026-05-08T15:52:47","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T15:52:47","slug":"renaissance-montreal-downtown-hotel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/en\/reviews\/hotels\/renaissance-montreal-downtown-hotel\/","title":{"rendered":"Review&nbsp;: Renaissance Downtown Montreal | Marriott Bonvoy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-masked-staycation-at-the-renaissance-montreal-downtown-hotel\">Masked staycation at the Renaissance Montreal Downtown Hotel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>The COVID-19 pandemic has stopped the plans of many enthusiastic travellers, but the tourism industry has recently restarted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With my friend Brigitte from <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/milesopedia\/\">the Facebook group of milesopedia, <\/a>we went to the <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"thirstylink\" title=\"Renaissance Montreal Downtown Hotel\" href=\"\/go\/marriott-yulmd\/\" >Renaissance Montreal Downtown Hotel<\/a>, part of <a href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/programme-fidelite\/marriott-bonvoy\/\">Marriott Bonvoy<\/a>, to rediscover the world of hotels in this time of virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/renaissance-entr\u00e9e.jpg\" alt=\"Review&nbsp;: Renaissance Downtown Montreal | Marriott Bonvoy - renaissance entr\u00e9e\" class=\"wp-image-91457\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that cleanliness is even more critical everywhere, has the Renaissance managed to give us confidence in this era of COVID-19?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Brigitte&#8217;s room, everything was fine. <strong>For mine, more or less.<\/strong> Let&#8217;s see what came out of our first hotel getaway in over four months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/r\u00e9ception.jpg\" alt=\"Review&nbsp;: Renaissance Downtown Montreal | Marriott Bonvoy - r\u00e9ception\" class=\"wp-image-91453\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-check-in-at-the-renaissance-montreal-downtown-hotel\">Check-in at the Renaissance Montreal Downtown Hotel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" class=\"thirstylink\" title=\"Renaissance Montreal Downtown Hotel\" href=\"\/go\/marriott-yulmd\/\" >The Renaissance Montreal Downtown Hotel<\/a> is located on the corner of Boulevard Robert-Bourassa (formerly University Street) and Cathcart, in the shadow of Place Ville Marie.Many shops and restaurants are in the area, but you still have to confirm with each one if they are open, as some are still closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/r\u00e9ception-projection.jpg\" alt=\"Review&nbsp;: Renaissance Downtown Montreal | Marriott Bonvoy - r\u00e9ception projection\" class=\"wp-image-91451\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Nevertheless, we found that <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"thirstylink\" title=\"Uber\" href=\"\/go\/uber\/\" >Uber Eats<\/a> delivery drivers often come to drop orders at the front desk (because with the new instructions, they are not allowed to go upstairs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/restaurant-east.jpg\" alt=\"Review&nbsp;: Renaissance Downtown Montreal | Marriott Bonvoy - restaurant east\" class=\"wp-image-91459\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Adjacent to the hotel, the Asian restaurant East was delicious. Besides, as it is an American Express <em>Shop Small<\/em> location, we benefited from the promotion in progress ($5 statement credit when you spend $10 or more).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/dumplings.jpg\" alt=\"Review&nbsp;: Renaissance Downtown Montreal | Marriott Bonvoy - dumplings\" class=\"wp-image-91481\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon entering the hotel, there is a contemporary style with eclectic decoration, where <em>lounge music<\/em> is king. A note from the hotel management at the entrance strongly recommends disinfecting your hands, and a plexiglass window protects the reception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/r\u00e8gles-sanitaires.jpg\" alt=\"Review&nbsp;: Renaissance Downtown Montreal | Marriott Bonvoy - r\u00e8gles sanitaires\" class=\"wp-image-91455\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The recording took place in accordance with social distances and was quick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a <a href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/en\/guide\/tutorials\/marriott-bonvoy-elite-status-benefits\/\">Platinum member,<\/a>I got an <strong>upgrade<\/strong> and ended up with the key to a Loft including a King bed and a couch bed. Also, as a member gift, I received a coupon for <strong>breakfast<\/strong> the next morning at the East restaurant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/lounge-r\u00e9ception.jpg\" alt=\"Review&nbsp;: Renaissance Downtown Montreal | Marriott Bonvoy - lounge r\u00e9ception\" class=\"wp-image-91439\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We were told about the new health obligations and guidelines. The main ones were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"component component__list\"><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>As soon as we enter our room, the hotel staff can no longer come during the stay. If you order something to your room, employees will drop it at the door.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maximum of 2 people in the elevator, unless they are from the same family<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No housekeeping services in the room during the stay.<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Hand sanitizer dispensers were located next to the call buttons and inside the elevators. There is also a mini-refrigerator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/garde-robe-funky.jpg\" alt=\"Review&nbsp;: Renaissance Downtown Montreal | Marriott Bonvoy - garde-robe funky\" class=\"wp-image-91485\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>1 or 2 more people can sleep on the sofa bed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/divan-lit-fantastique.jpg\" alt=\"Review&nbsp;: Renaissance Downtown Montreal | Marriott Bonvoy - divan lit fantastique\" class=\"wp-image-91477\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As for the bathroom, it was bright and uncluttered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/douche-salle-de-bain.jpg\" alt=\"Review&nbsp;: Renaissance Downtown Montreal | Marriott Bonvoy - douche salle de bain\" class=\"wp-image-91479\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>However, my only negative comments come from this room. Throughout the hotel, measures were taken to comply with the new sanitary standards, but the bathroom failed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/mur-salle-de-bain.jpg\" alt=\"Review&nbsp;: Renaissance Downtown Montreal | Marriott Bonvoy - mur salle de bain\" class=\"wp-image-91445\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When I checked the toiletries, I noticed that the seal of the mouthwash bottle was pierced: it had already been used. The lotion bottle was half empty. Someone had used the bottle of body cleanser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/salle-de-bain.jpg\" alt=\"Review&nbsp;: Renaissance Downtown Montreal | Marriott Bonvoy - salle de bain\" class=\"wp-image-91461\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Then a doubt settled when looking at the rest of the room. If this had been neglected, what else had been? Just to be sure, I used the four disinfectant wipes given in the room and cleaned the items I was more likely to touch during my stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/lingettes-d\u00e9sinfectantes.jpg\" alt=\"Review&nbsp;: Renaissance Downtown Montreal | Marriott Bonvoy - lingettes d\u00e9sinfectantes\" class=\"wp-image-91491\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When I reported the incident to the front desk, they were sorry but told me that each room was left in quarantine for at least 24 hours before renting it to a new guest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The front desk officer was still waiting for a follow-up from housekeeping when I left. I didn&#8217;t have any other follow-ups of the hotel afterwards. <strong>I did not have any compensation or offer to replace the products. **Updated July 08, 2020. Marriott heard my complaint and resolved it to my satisfaction. **<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-facilities\">Facilities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Before booking, I had called the hotel to find out what was open or not. The gym and restaurant East were well open. But not the pool and the roof terrace. They will be in early July. Until then, everything is on hold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/terrasse-ferm\u00e9e.jpg\" alt=\"Review&nbsp;: Renaissance Downtown Montreal | Marriott Bonvoy - terrasse ferm\u00e9e\" class=\"wp-image-91463\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The pool looked more like a plunge pool. Excuse the housekeeping!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/piscine.jpg\" alt=\"Review&nbsp;: Renaissance Downtown Montreal | Marriott Bonvoy - piscine\" class=\"wp-image-91447\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Large panels of resistant fabrics separated the interior from the outside and will be removed for the summer. You could still imagine the festive atmosphere of the terrace in the summertime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/terrasse-pas-ouverte.jpg\" alt=\"Review&nbsp;: Renaissance Downtown Montreal | Marriott Bonvoy - terrasse pas ouverte\" class=\"wp-image-91465\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As for the gym, it is located in the 2nd basement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/gym.jpg\" alt=\"Review&nbsp;: Renaissance Downtown Montreal | Marriott Bonvoy - gym\" class=\"wp-image-91489\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Without a window, it has a creepy side but has inspiring messages on the mirrors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/gym-messages.jpg\" alt=\"Review&nbsp;: Renaissance Downtown Montreal | Marriott Bonvoy - gym messages\" class=\"wp-image-91487\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And if you needed even more motivation, there are benches from the old Forum signed by Guy Lafleur and Patrick Roy, as well as a jersey signed by the Montreal Canadiens players of the 2016-2017 season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/canadiens.jpg\" alt=\"Review&nbsp;: Renaissance Downtown Montreal | Marriott Bonvoy - canadiens\" class=\"wp-image-91473\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-noise\">Noise<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Downtown also means noise. Until late at night, a few car drivers had fun with their engines at the intersection and emergency vehicles drove with their sirens. If you are a light sleeper, ask to take a room to the back of the hotel that does not overlook the street or bring your earplugs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/place-ville-marie.jpg\" alt=\"Review&nbsp;: Renaissance Downtown Montreal | Marriott Bonvoy - place ville marie\" class=\"wp-image-91449\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-bottom-line\">Bottom Line<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This hotel is next to a variety of shops, restaurants, offices and tourist attractions within walking distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apart from the history of the toiletries already used, our stay went well. Confidence has undoubtedly been shaken, but that won&#8217;t stop me from going back to another hotel for a getaway in the next few days.
