It complements visa waiver policies for citizens of <strong>61<\/strong> countries (including Canada). This system is designed to reinforce security at the <strong>European Union<\/strong>&#8216;s borders and centralize the control of travel documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Canadians visiting the <strong>Schengen area<\/strong> for tourism, business or transit do <strong>not<\/strong> need a visa if their stay is less than <strong>90<\/strong> days. If your trip requires a visa (for study or work, for example), you&#8217;ll still need to obtain one. The <strong>ETIAS<\/strong> does <strong>not<\/strong> replace a visa for the Schengen area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-when-does-etias-start\">When does ETIAS start?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Although procedures to introduce <strong>ETIAS<\/strong> began in 2016, there is no official launch date yet. The website simply states that the program should be in place by <strong>2025<\/strong>. Here are the steps to follow:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-fill-in-the-online-form\">1. Fill in the online form<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Visit <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/travel-europe.europa.eu\/etias_en\">the official ETIAS website<\/a> and complete the online application. Please allow about 10 minutes to complete the form. In this case, the ETIAS will expire on the same date as the passport. You can therefore use the same <strong>ETIAS<\/strong> for other stays in <strong>Europe<\/strong> during the validity period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-which-countries-are-covered-by-etias\">Which countries are covered by ETIAS?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ETIAS<\/strong> is applicable to<strong>Schengen<\/strong> countries plus a few other European countries. You can use a single authorization to travel to any country within its period of validity.
