Review of the different possible paths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-foreword\">Foreword<\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s not always easy to use your miles when you&#8217;re traveling together. Miles and points accounts are predominantly individual accounts. Few loyalty programs offer the option of a &#8220;joint\/family&#8221; account. But there are a few more or less easy ways to make transfers in order to gather points in the same account.<\/p>\n\n\n<aside class=\"component component__notice component__notice--info wp-block-milesgutenberg-notice\">\n\t\t\t\t<i class=\"fas fa-info-circle\"><\/i>\n\t\t<div class=\"component__notice__content\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\n<p>Most programs offer the ability to transfer miles and points directly to third party accounts&#8230; but the price is not attractive at all. This is not a real solution for couples or families.<\/p>\n\n\t<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>Why transfer points? Pros:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"component component__list\"><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be able to <strong>complete<\/strong> an account with the few points needed to make a reservation,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Enjoy benefits<\/strong> such as <a href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/programmes-hotels\/la-cinquieme-nuit-gratuite-avec-les-points-marriott-rewards\/\">a free fifth night with Marriott Bonvoy<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Take advantage of the status<\/strong> a family member has acquired with the loyalty program<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Convert points<\/strong> into an airline program at a discounted rate, such as Marriott Bonvoy at 60,000 points<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-membership-number-when-applying-for-a-credit-card\">Membership number when applying for a credit card<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When applying for a credit card, you may be tempted to enter your spouse&#8217;s\/friend&#8217;s membership number to consolidate points into one account &#8220;at source&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Be aware that while this is technically possible for some programs, others have put up barriers to prevent it. And <strong>what is valid today, may not be valid tomorrow<\/strong>. Here are some pointers to the major credit card programs and issuers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-air-miles\">AIR MILES<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-20147 alignright\" title=\"bmo-air-miles-world-elite-mastercard-en\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/bmo-air-miles-world-elite-mastercard-fr-1.jpg\" alt=\"bmo air miles world elite mastercard fr 1\" width=\"149\" height=\"94\">When you sign up for an AIR MILES credit card, issued by American Express or BMO<a href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/toutes-les-offres-de-cartes-de-credit-air-miles-disponibles-au-canada\/\">(both offer 14!<\/a>), <strong>you can provide your spouse\/friend&#8217;s account number<\/strong>. The miles will then go into the same account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, if your credit card offers benefits &#8211; such as<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/?p=8459\">  the free companion ticket<\/a>  for some offers  <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/?p=22663\">BMO<sup>&reg;<\/sup> AIR MILES<sup>&reg;<\/sup> World Elite<sup>&reg;<\/sup>* Mastercard<\/a>), you will not be able to use it twice if you and your spouse sign up for the same card and provide the same AIR MILES account number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The benefit is attached to the AIR MILES account, not the credit card.<\/p>\n\n\n<aside class=\"component component__notice component__notice--info wp-block-milesgutenberg-notice\">\n\t\t\t\t<i class=\"fas fa-info-circle\"><\/i>\n\t\t<div class=\"component__notice__content\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\n<p>Our advice: always indicate YOUR membership number when signing up for a credit card, you will be sure to get the bonus and the points linked to the purchases.<\/p>\n\n\t<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-aeroplan\">Aeroplan<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/en\/?post_type=card&amp;p=22628\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-29114\" title=\"Gold_Card_AeroplanPlus\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/carte_en_or_aeroplanplus.png\" alt=\"aeroplanplus gold card\" width=\"150\" height=\"95\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you sign up for an Aeroplan credit card, issued by American Express, CIBC or TD, such as <a class=\"thirstylink\" title=\"AeroplanPlus<sup>MD<\/sup>* American Express<sup>MD<\/sup> Gold Card\" href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/en\/?post_type=card&amp;p=22628\">the AeroplanPlus<sup>MD<\/sup>* American Express<sup>MD<\/sup> Gold Card,<\/a> you will have the option to provide your Aeroplan membership number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We strongly advise you to indicate this when you apply, to avoid the card issuer creating a new number for you.  <strong>But don&#8217;t you dare give out another Aeroplan membership number: it usually won&#8217;t work, with a few exceptions!  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-best-western-rewards\">Best Western Rewards<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/?p=26797\"><img class=\"alignright wp-image-33783\" title=\"MBNA Best Western Rewards<sup>&reg;<\/sup> Mastercard<sup>&reg;<\/sup> from MBNA\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/mbna-best-western-rewards-card-french.jpg\" alt=\"mbna best western rewards card\" width=\"150\" height=\"95\"><\/a>When you sign up for <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"thirstylink\" title=\"la carte de cr\u00e9dit MasterCard Best Western Rewards\" href=\"\/?p=26797\">the Best Western Rewards Mastercard credit<\/a> card, you cannot provide a membership number: MBNA will provide you with a membership number from Best Western Rewards<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/?p=135773\">(available at the bottom of your statement<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you already have a Best Western Rewards membership number, you&#8217;ll need to call MBNA shortly after receiving the card to mention it. <strong>But don&#8217;t bother giving out another Best Western Rewards membership number &#8211; it usually won&#8217;t work<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And that&#8217;s not necessary: Best Western Rewards allows you to transfer points from one account to another for free, as we&#8217;ll see below!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-marriott-bonvoy\">Marriott Bonvoy<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><img class=\"alignright wp-image-33791\" title=\"Marriott Bonvoy<sup>&reg;<\/sup> American Express<sup>&reg;<\/sup>* Card\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/bonvoy_aec2.jpg\" alt=\"bonvoy aec2\" width=\"150\" height=\"95\">When you subscribe to the <a href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/en\/credit-cards\/marriott-bonvoy-american-express-card\/\">Marriott Bonvoy<sup>MD<\/sup> American Express<sup>MD<\/sup>* Card<\/a> or the <a href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/en\/credit-cards\/marriott-bonvoy-business-american-express-card\/\">Marriott Bonvoy<sup>MD<\/sup> Business American Express<sup>&reg;<\/sup>* Card<\/a>, you will have the opportunity to indicate your Marriott Bonvoy membership number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We strongly recommend that you indicate this when you apply, so that American Express does not create a new number for you.  <strong>But don&#8217;t you dare give another Marriott Bonvoy membership number: it won&#8217;t work!  <\/strong>And it will be difficult to recover your points, lost between American Express and Marriott Bonvoy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it&#8217;s not really useful: Marriott Bonvoy allows you to transfer 100,000 points per year from one account to another for free, as we&#8217;ll see below!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-transferring-points-between-accounts-program-by-program\">Transferring points between accounts, program by program<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here we will study the transfer of points between accounts of the main loyalty programs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/marriott-bonvoy-logo.jpeg\" alt=\"marriott bonvoy logo\" class=\"wp-image-32138\" title=\"marriott-bonvoy-logo\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-marriott-bonvoy\">Marriott Bonvoy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-transferring-marriott-bonvoy-points-between-accounts\">Transferring Marriott Bonvoy points between accounts<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Marriott Bonvoy allows all members of its loyalty program to<strong> transfer points to another member, free of charge, up to 100,000 points per year<\/strong> by calling +1 800&nbsp;228 2100.<\/p>\n\n\n<aside class=\"component component__notice component__notice--info wp-block-milesgutenberg-notice\">\n\t\t\t\t<i class=\"fas fa-info-circle\"><\/i>\n\t\t<div class=\"component__notice__content\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\n<p>Note: you can transfer points to any Marriott member: spouse, relative, friend, co-worker&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\t<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/transfert-points-marriott-bonvoy-1.jpg\" alt=\"transfer points marriott bonvoy 1\" class=\"wp-image-32869\" title=\"transfer points marriott bonvoy\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s convenient for a couple to go hunting for welcome bonuses  <a href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/encyclopedie-cartes\/starwood-preferred-guest\">credit cards linked to the Marriott Bonvoy program<\/a>  ! 100,000 points per year, allows you to combine everything into one account for easier booking and\/or higher status on one account than the other!<\/p>\n\n\n<aside class=\"component component__notice component__notice--info wp-block-milesgutenberg-notice\">\n\t\t\t\t<i class=\"fas fa-info-circle\"><\/i>\n\t\t<div class=\"component__notice__content\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\n<p>When applying for a Marriott Bonvoy,<strong> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">do not include your spouse&#8217;s Marriott membership number<\/span><\/strong> ! Each cardholder must have their own membership number. Once the points are in your Marriott Bonvoy account you call Marriott to transfer those points from one account to another!<\/p>\n\n\t<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-transferring-marriott-bonvoy-points-to-other-program-accounts\">Transferring Marriott Bonvoy points to other program accounts<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Marriott Bonvoy allows you to <a href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/programmes-hotels\/marriott-bonvoy-le-nouveau-programme-de-recompenses-de-marriott\/#La_conversion_de_points_Marriott_Bonvoy_en_miles_de_compagnies_aeriennes\">convert points to miles from airline programs<\/a> like Aeroplan. But the account name must match the name of the air program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We therefore advise against converting Marriott <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/en\/guide\/what-to-do-with-150000-marriott-bonvoy-points-for-the-2022-holidays\/\" title=\"What to do with 150,000 Marriott Bonvoy points for the 2022 holidays?\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"1212\">Bonvoy points<\/a> from your account to your spouse&#8217;s Aeroplan account, for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/logo-best-western-rewards-e1548695895348-1.jpg\" alt=\"logo best western rewards e1548695895348 1\" class=\"wp-image-32108\" title=\"logo best western rewards\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-best-western-rewards\">Best Western Rewards<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-transferring-best-western-rewards-points-between-accounts\">Transferring Best Western Rewards points between accounts<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>You can transfer your points from one account to another, free of charge! You have to call Best Western Rewards Customer Service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/transfert-point-best-western.png\" alt=\"transfert point best western\" class=\"wp-image-30974\" title=\"transfert point best western\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The only condition: <strong>Best Western Rewards accounts must be at the same address<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To call Best Western from Canada or the United States, the number is 1 (800) 237-8483. All the members of the <a class=\"thirstylink\" title=\"Facebook group travel for free (or almost...!) with your points and miles - milesopedia\" href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/en\/groupe-facebook-2\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-linkid=\"26921\" data-nojs=\"false\">facebook group &#8220;Travel for free (or almost&#8230;!) with your points &amp; miles &#8211; milesopedia&#8221;<\/a> who had to call customer service to transfer their points had only good comments to make about the quality of the customer service!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-transfer-of-best-western-rewards-points-to-other-program-accounts\">Transfer of Best Western Rewards points to other program accounts<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Best Western Rewards allows you to <a href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/en\/guide\/tutorials\/ultimate-guide-best-western\/#Vers_un_autre_programme_de_loyaute\">convert points to miles from airline programs<\/a> such as Aeroplan. Transferring miles between Aeroplan accounts costs between 1.5 and 2 cents per mile redeemed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have an <a href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/programmes-banques\/le-programme-points-privileges-damerican-express\">American Express Membership Rewards<\/a> account then those Membership Rewards points can be transferred to a third party Aeroplan account, details in <a href=\"\/?p=2800#aeroplan\">this article<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-transferring-aeroplan-miles-to-other-program-accounts\">Transferring Aeroplan Miles to other program accounts<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Transferring Aeroplan Miles to other programs is almost impossible, except by dealing with platforms like <a class=\"thirstylink\" title=\"Points.com\" href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/en\/go\/points\/\">Points.com<\/a>, but the conversion rate will not be advantageous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/en\/go\/points\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-41468\" title=\"aeroplan ihg points\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/aeroplan-ihg-points.png\" alt=\"aeroplan ihg points\" width=\"550\" height=\"457\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/air-miles.png\" alt=\"air miles\" class=\"wp-image-2567\" title=\"air miles\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-air-miles\">AIR MILES<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-transferring-air-miles-miles-between-accounts\">Transferring AIR MILES miles between accounts<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Like Aeroplan, AIR MILES charges a very high fee for transferring miles between Collector accounts: $0.15 CAD\/mile. To transfer 2,000 miles from one account to another&#8230; it would cost $310 CAD + taxes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/air-miles-transfert-cout.png\" alt=\"air miles transfer cost\" class=\"wp-image-41469\" title=\"air miles transfer cost\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"size-full alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/carte-de-credit-de-platine-air-miles-american-express-logo.jpg\" alt=\"Platinum credit card air miles american express logo\" class=\"wp-image-1725\" title=\"American Express AIR MILES Platinum Credit Card\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>We strongly advise against doing so!
