I usually book the return trip individually. So, here is the fare paid, for 2 people, for our flight from Shanghai to Montreal:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

75,000 Aeroplan miles and $280 taxes\/fees per person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yes, I accepted to pay carrier surcharges (imposed by Air Canada) for convenience: it’s a direct flight that leaves at the end of the day and arrives the same day in Montreal. Jean-Maximilien explained very well in this article why, in some occasions, it can be acceptable to pay carrier surcharges!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How did I get these Aeroplan miles? Via subscriptions to various American Express Membership Rewards cards (with the exception of the Cobalt card)<\/a>. Earlier this year, the American Express Corporate Platinum Card offered 75,000 Membership Rewards points and cost only $399. So this business class ticket only cost me $399 + $280 = $679! A good deal, no?<\/p>\n\n\n
