You might be tempted to pay for everything with the same card, just to make sure you&#8217;re covered&#8230; Think again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indeed, you need to be used to reading the fine print in credit card insurance contracts to know which card to use to pay which expense. <strong>Especially when you use miles or points to pay for your trip.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-insuring-your-airline-ticket-booked-with-aeroplan-points\">Insuring your airline ticket booked with Aeroplan points<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The best way to insure a trip paid with Aeroplan points is to book it with an Aeroplan credit card that offers <a href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/en\/personal-finance\/insurance\/snowbirds-saving-travel-insurance\/\">travel insurance<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indeed, other \u201cnon-Aeroplan\u201d credit cards generally require that the entire airline ticket be paid with the credit card. This assumes that points have not been used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In my case, when I booked my airline tickets, I had three credit cards affiliated <a href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/en\/reward-program\/aeroplan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">with the Aeroplan program<\/a> in my wallet:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"component component__list\"><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"American Express<sup>&reg;<\/sup> Aeroplan<sup>&reg;<\/sup>* Reserve Card\" href=\"\/go\/amex-aeroplan-reserve\/\" rel=\"noindex\">American Express<sup>MD<\/sup>* Aeroplan<sup>MD<\/sup> Prestige Card<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"TD<sup>&reg;<\/sup> Aeroplan<sup>&reg;<\/sup> Visa Infinite* Card\" href=\"\/go\/td-aeroplan-visa-infinite-card\/\" rel=\"noindex\">TD<sup>MD<\/sup> Aeroplan<sup>MD<\/sup> Visa Infinite* Card<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>as well as the <a href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/en\/credit-cards\/american-express-aeroplan-card\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American Express<sup>MD<\/sup>* Aeroplan<sup>MD<\/sup> Card<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Usually, I pay my Aeroplan expenses with the <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"American Express<sup>&reg;<\/sup> Aeroplan<sup>&reg;<\/sup>* Reserve Card\" href=\"\/go\/amex-aeroplan-reserve\/\" rel=\"noindex\">American Express<sup>MD<\/sup>* Aeroplan<sup>MD<\/sup> Prestige Card<\/a>. It provides $1,000 coverage for flight <strong>and<\/strong> baggage delays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, this time, I opted for the <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"TD<sup>&reg;<\/sup> Aeroplan<sup>&reg;<\/sup> Visa Infinite* Card\" href=\"\/go\/td-aeroplan-visa-infinite-card\/\" rel=\"noindex\">TD<sup>MD<\/sup> Aeroplan<sup>MD<\/sup> Visa Infinite* Card<\/a>. It offers $500 for flight delays <strong>and<\/strong> $1,000 per person for baggage delays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why did I choose this card? There was an equipment failure (frozen toilets) on the common carrier (Air Canada). This was caused by the aircraft being parked on the tarmac all night. Indeed, the weather conditions were violent, with temperatures below -20 degrees Celsius.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-claims-procedure\">The claims procedure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to be compensated, you must <strong>record all covered expenses on the card and keep all receipts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, in my case, I used my <a href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/en\/credit-cards\/td-aeroplan-visa-infinite-card\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TD<sup>MD<\/sup> Aeroplan<sup>MD<\/sup> Visa Infinite* Card<\/a> to pay for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"component component__list\"><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cabs from the airport to the hotel and back<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The hotel in San Francisco<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Living expenses.<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>It is then necessary to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allianz-assistance.ca\/fr_CA.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">submit a claim online on the Allianz website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-insuring-your-car-rental\">Insuring your car rental<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For the car rental, I chose another card: the <a href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/en\/credit-cards\/bmo-ascend-world-elite-mastercard\/\">BMO Ascend World Elite Mastercard<\/a>. It offers one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/en\/personal-finance\/insurance\/theft-damage-car-rental-credit-cards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">best rental car insurance coverages<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What&#8217;s more, with all travel expenses such as car rentals, <strong>you earn 5 points per dollar spent<\/strong>. Enough to cover foreign exchange fees of 2.5%!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A discount is also granted thanks to contract number <strong>3717122<\/strong> (National Car Rental) or <strong>7014883<\/strong> (Alamo Rent A Car). Sometimes, this discount can be up to 25%.<\/p>\n\n\n<aside class=\"component component__notice component__notice--info wp-block-milesgutenberg-notice\">\n\t\t\t\t<i class=\"fas fa-info-circle\"><\/i>\n\t\t<div class=\"component__notice__content\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\n<p><strong>Tip<\/strong>: you can also put the vehicle deposit on the card that provides you with the best coverage\u2026 and pay at the end of your rental with another credit card if everything went well (for example, one that <a href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/en\/best-credit-cards-in-canada\/forex\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">does not charge foreign currency conversion fees<\/a>!).<\/p>\n\n\t<\/div>\n<\/aside>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here is a firsthand account following a significant delay on an Air Canada flight paid with Aeroplan points.
