Volcanic activity has shaped the landscape through erosion and carvings dating back to the 4th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indeed, the inhabitants took advantage of the stones&#8217; malleability to build <strong>entire cities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Paysage-lunaire-2.jpg\" alt=\"Travel Guide: Cappadocia and its hot air balloons - Paysage lunaire 2\" class=\"wp-image-178522\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-goreme-open-air-museum\">G\u00f6reme Open Air Museum<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The vast complex includes several churches and monasteries carved into the walls of the Cappadocia valley. The <strong>architecture<\/strong> is unique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inside, you can admire paintings (frescoes) of the <strong>Byzantine art<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Muse\u0301e-a\u0300-air-ouverte.jpg\" alt=\"Travel Guide: Cappadocia and its hot air balloons - Muse\u0301e a\u0300 air ouverte\" class=\"wp-image-178518\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-underground-cities\">Underground cities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The region&#8217;s first civilizations built these cities for agricultural purposes and to store their harvest. Then, during the rise of Christianity, people took refuge there to <strong>protect themselves<\/strong> from persecution and pagan invasions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are about <strong>200 cities<\/strong> that lie below the <strong>Cappadocia<\/strong> valley, but only about 30 have been discovered and excavated. This destination is popular not only for flying, but simply for watching <strong>hundreds of them<\/strong> take off with the rising sun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was a <strong>magical moment<\/strong> that I will never forget and <strong>one of my best travel experiences.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You have to <strong>wake up very early<\/strong> to see them. The difference in price is often related to the number of people allowed in the gondola.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This activity is very popular, especially during the high season. I advise you to wake up again in the early hours to experience this <strong>from another angle<\/strong>, even if you have taken a <strong>balloon<\/strong> ride.In fact, I preferred the panoramas from the ground since I could <strong>admire the show without being crammed into the gondola<\/strong>. The round-trip fare is 80,000 Aeroplan points in economy class and 140,000 Aeroplan points in <a href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/avis\/vols\/vol-classe-affaires-montreal-istanbul-turkish-airlines\/\">business<\/a> class plus $138 in taxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Cappadocia<\/strong> region is also very accessible with <a href=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/en\/reward-program\/aeroplan\/\">Aeroplan points<\/a>. However, the rates are usually very low when paying in cash.
