Finally, there comes a time when <strong>any washbasin<\/strong> is enough for a shampoo and washing with a mitt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n\n<p>There is also the <strong>option of a shower<\/strong> in the Van.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But we have to watch our water consumption, as our members remind us, otherwise we are doomed to constantly look for places to refuel or end up with soap on our bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And when you&#8217;re deep in nature, <strong>stocking up is not always as easy<\/strong> as you would like it to be!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the shower is in the bathroom and items are put away because space is limited, the little routine can become rather labourious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s why:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"component component__list\"><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>start the water heater<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>get everything out of the bathroom<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>wash ourselves quickly so as not to fill the waste water tank and empty the other one<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>wipe the walls<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>put everything back<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>don&#8217;t forget to turn off the water heater to avoid wasting propane.<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-medium\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"250\" height=\"160\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/van-life-1-36.jpg\" alt=\"How to prepare for Van Life? - van life---\" class=\"wp-image-88096\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Ingenious people have installed portable showers on the roof of the vehicle and others, <strong>jets of water heated with solar panels<\/strong> while the caravan is in motion. We have to admit that this is not ideal, and that it&#8217;s best to take care not to put paper in the bowl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-van-life-ah-dear-walmart\">Van Life: ah, dear Walmart<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It is well known that many motorized vehicles spend nights in <strong>superstore parking lots<\/strong>, especially at Walmart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No, it&#8217;s not one of the little treasures found during the trip but it&#8217;s rather practical in anticipation of the shopping to be done the next day. Good to know: <strong>it&#8217;s forbidden in California<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our members point out that in the United States, these businesses are open as early as 7:00 a.m. and close late. Convenient when children are asleep. In addition, using their bathrooms saves water and help preserve the capacity of the wastewater tank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, it is a large playground for a small ball game before bedtime. It also lets the parents get some fresh air. Because let&#8217;s face it, <strong>privacy is an issue<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-van-life-privacy\">Van Life: privacy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s address this aspect of intimacy when we travel as a couple or as a family and we are together <strong>24 hours a day<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our members remind us of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n<aside class=\"component component__quote wp-block-milesgutenberg-quote\">\n\t<div class=\"component__quote__icon\">\n\t\t<i class=\"fa-solid fa-quote-left\"><\/i>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"component__quote__content\">\n\t\t<div class=\"component__quote__content__inner\">\n\t\t\t\n\n<p>It is necessary to communicate and tell each other if we need to go out alone for a moment because this way of travelling can put a couple to the test.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>Space is limited, time is rarely spent alone, many decisions have to be made on a daily basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides, <strong>what makes one person feel insecure or annoyed is not always an issue for the other.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-medium\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"250\" height=\"160\" src=\"https:\/\/mp-2702.milesopedia.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/van-life-1-40.jpg\" alt=\"How to prepare for Van Life? - van life---\" class=\"wp-image-88104\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-van-life-staying-connected\">Van Life: staying connected<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For network access and internet data management, there are different solutions for different needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our members did some digging:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"component component__list\"><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>SIM card<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>16 GB with Rogers on a cell phone that have made it possible to get internet everywhere, but REALLY everywhere in North America<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.glocalme.com\/US\/en-US\">GlocalMe<\/a>, a portable router from which one buys data directly from the countries in which one is located, has enabled the production of the required telework. You can connect cell phones, laptops and tablets to the emitted wifi. Let&#8217;s say it gives you a good headstart. This did not prevent them from having to work on a tight budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For some, there was the possibility of <strong>taking a sabbatical year at work<\/strong>, with deferred salary. A deduction from salary for X amount of time allows access to funds during the trip. Anik uses this strategy. She is preparing her fifth escapade, each of them lasting between six and twelve months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Others were able to <strong>work remotely<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-van-life-advice-and-recommendations\">Van Life: advice and recommendations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s say that you&#8217;re still feeling tempted by the adventure. Some even mention taking a course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-van-life-maintenance\">Van Life: maintenance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Have the vehicle you want to buy second-hand checked by a mechanic.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Test it over short distances. And if it&#8217;s a Westfalia, a little <strong>101 class<\/strong> will save you a lot of trouble. These vans have their own personalities and equipment. Injector, alternator, belts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bring spare parts and tires in reserve because you never know what the road has in store for you. Otherwise, there are always the towing services and long-load dollies. While we were waiting for the tow, a <em>Skywalk<\/em> employee came to offer us a guided tour (it would have been $125 if we had had to pay for this service).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We finally stayed 4 days in Jasper instead of 2, and we found that it was the best spot to break down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We had to rent a minivan, the last one left in the whole of Jasper. The website is very useful although it is <strong>not always up to date<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-van-life-insurance\">Van Life: insurance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You must have good insurance.<\/strong> Aviva was recommended for the speedy settlement of claims. The Globe Trotter option covers longer term travel outside of Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>For Mexico<\/em>, Lewis &amp; Lewis, an American firm, is more economical than Canadian firms with the same coverage. For all countries south of Mexico, there would be no short-term &#8220;damage&#8221; insurance.
